Loos, son of Breck '81 and Sheri Loos, won seven varsity letters in his four years at SHS, three in football and four in track and field. Loos received numerous accolades for his hard work and determination on the football field: IHSFCA 5A All-State 1st team (’08 & ’09); Quad City Times All-Area 1st team (’08 & ’09); Champaign Gazette Top 100 special mention (’08 & ’09); Chicago Tribune All-State special mention (’08 & ’09); Sauk Valley News All-Area 1st team (’08 & ’09); ICA Shrine Game selection; Taualii Coaches’ MVP Award; NCIC 1st team unanimous selection (’08 & ’09). Loos also helped his football team win back-to-back conference championships in his junior and senior seasons, the first time since 1984.Loos was an IHSA discus state qualifier in 2009 and placed 10th at the state meet. In 2010, he qualified in both the shot put and the discus, ending his high school track career as a state champion in the discus, with a throw of 160-2, Sterling’s first male individual state champion since 1996, earning him MVP honors as well. Loos is currently ranked seventh all-time in SHS history in the discus, with his throw of 167-1 on May 14th, 2010. He is also ranked fourth all-time in the shot put, with a throw of 56-1 on April 13th, 2010. Loos was also involved in SHS activities outside of athletics, as a member of the Young Leaders of America; a Rotary scholar his freshman and senior year; a WYSE member his junior and senior year; and a Boys State attendee. Loos excelled in the classroom as well, being named to the NCIC all-academic football and track teams (’09, ’10).Loos was named as the 2009-2010 Sauk Valley Newspapers’ Male Athlete of the Year. He will attend Northern Illinois University on a full athletic scholarship and play football for the Huskies.
