Floyd Hunsberger, born August 3, 1926, is a STHS graduate of the Class of the 1945. While attending Sterling Township High School, Floyd was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams.

On the 1943 basketball team, Floyd scored 25 field goals, 20 free throws, and averaged 4.12 points per game for a total of 70 points in 17 games. The following year, he scored 53 field goals, 48 free throws, and averaged 7.70 points per game for a total of 154 points in 20 games. Floyd's high school career basketball record is 78 field goals, 68 free throws, and 6.05 points per game for a total of 224 points in 37 games. At the conclusion of the season, he received All-Conference Honors.

While on the track team, Floyd participated in the 440-yard relay, 200-yard low hurdles, long jump, 120-yard high hurdles, and pole vault. In 1944, he placed first at the NCIC Meet in the 200-yard low hurdles and second in the long jump. Also the same year, Floyd qualified for the State Meet in the 200-yard low hurdles and in the pole vault. After breaking finals in the pole vault at the State Meet, Floyd captured fifth place.

During his last year of high school Floyd entered the service for two years. He then attended Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb, Illinois. While he was there, he was a member of the football and track teams. He was named an All-Conference player in football in both 1949 and 1950 and was named Most Valuable Player his senior year. In track, he captured the IIAC Conference pole vault record and was dubbed Campus Leader of Athletics.

Receiving collegiate commencement in 1950, he returned to Sterling High School in 1952, where he taught building trades in addition to helping coach football, basketball, and track. While helping with track, he coached the pole-vaulters and had a pole-vaulter at the State Meet 16 out of the 17 years he coached. Shortly after his nineteen years at Sterling High School he moved to Whiteside Area Vocational Center, where he also taught building trades until 1985.

Floyd passed away on April 24, 2010.
