Harold Hussung, born March 12, 1937, is a STHS graduate of the Class of 1955. While attending Sterling Township High School, he earned three varsity letters in football and four in track.

While in track, Harold participated in the 80-yard high hurdles, 120-yard high hurdles, 180-yard low hurdles, 220-yard dash, 880-yard relay, 440-yard relay, and 320-yard high hurdle shuttle. Harold received first place at the NCIC Meet in the 120-yard hurdles his junior year. He also set the DeKalb Meet record with a time of 0:43.8 in the 320-yard high hurdle shuttle. At the Sectional Meet, Harold qualified for the State Meet in both the 120-yard high hurdles and 880-yard relay. Competing at the State Meet, Harold finished in fifth place in the 120-yard high hurdles. The following year at the NCIC Meet, Harold captured the first place crown for the second consecutive year in the 120-yard high hurdles and set new meet record in the 180 low hurdles with a time of 0:20.4. He also set new SHS records in the 440-yard relay with a time of 0:44.8; 180-low hurdles with a time of 0:19.8; 120-high hurdles with a time of 0:14.6; and in the 880-yard relay with a time of 1:32.4. He qualified for the State Meet again his senior year in the 120-yard high hurdles and 180 low hurdles. At the State Meet, Harold finished third in the 120-yard high hurdles - his only defeat of the season in the event.

A fullback for the football team, Harold gained 862 yards in 82 carries for a 10.5-yard average, during the 1954-55 football season. In addition, he served as captain of the team and was also named "first team" All-Western Illinois and First All-Conference. Concluding his senior year, he was awarded the Wigwam Wiseman National High School All-American.

Upon graduation, he attended Northern Illinois University from 1957-58 and eventually transferred to University of Illinois, where he attended from 1960-1964 and earned his BFA.

Honeywell Inc. then employed Harold, where he worked as an art director. During his career, he earned an award from the Fraklin Mint, for a design he did for the Minnesota State medallion.
