Steve Loos, born March 23, 1951, is a SHS graduate of the class of 1969. While at Sterling High School, he lettered in basketball, football, and track.

Participating in basketball, Steve was named captain and MVP his senior year. In addition, he received the SHS Free Throw Award (83.4%) in 1969. As captain of the team, Steve was named to the All-State First Team, New-Mor-Roc-Ster First Team, and All-Conference First Team. He obtained a varsity career record of 49 games, 276 field goals, 121 free throws, and averaged 14.59 points per game for a total of 715 points.

Serving as a defensive back his junior year, he moved up to the quarterback position on the 1969 football team. During his senior year, Steve was elected to the captain position. In addition, he was named SHS's MVP and All-Conference Honorable Mention.

An avid discus thrower for the track team, Steve received two varsity letters in track. His junior year, the team had a record of 7-0 and his senior year they remained undefeated with a record of 8-0. Steve was captain of the team his senior year and was the number one discus thrower at SHS with a career best distance of 147'08". At the conclusion of his high school athletic career, he was awarded the Roscoe Eades Award in 1969.

Upon graduation, he received a four-year scholarship to play basketball at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. As a freshman, he was the leading scorer and became a starting guard on the varsity team his sophomore year for three years. During his sophomore year, he was named to the All-City First Team. His senior year, he was named captain and the team earned one of the best school records of 17-9.

Upon commencement in 1973, Steve received his BBA. In addition, he also obtained the university's Walter Hayne's Athletic Award. He proceeded to become the Executive Officer at John A. Loos Sons and Inc. in Sterling, Ill.

Steve passed away on June 3, 2008.
