Mark House, born May 18, 1952, is an STHS graduate of the Class of 1970. While attending Sterling Township High School, Mark earned two varsity letters in track and three in basketball. In track, Mark excelled in the high jump. During his senior year, Mark jumped 6'00" at the NCIC Meet to capture third place. The 1969 track team had a season record of 6-1 in dual meets, while the 1970 team went undefeated. A member of the STHS basketball team, Mark practiced three to four hours a day on his own time after regular practice. During his junior year, Mark's extra practice led to a season record of 22 games, 143 field goals, 86 free throws, and 16.9 points per game for a total of 372 points. In 1970, Mark had a record of 29 games, 300 field goals, 134 free throws, and 25.31 points per game for a total of 734 points. At the conclusion of his high school basketball career, Mark had a record of 55 games in three years, 452 field goals, 222 free throws, and averaged 20.47 points per game for a total of 1,126 points. In 1970, Mark obtained both the Most Valuable Player Award and Rebound Award. In addition, he was named to the All-Conference Basketball Team. Upon graduation in 1970, Mark received a basketball scholarship to Murray State, in Murray, Kentucky. During his freshman year, the team went undefeated in the regular season. After his junior year, Mark joined the National Guard and was employed by Rock River Cartage as a diesel mechanic in 1976. After two years of service, Mark was honorably discharged, but remained in the reserves. Aside from his career, Mark participated in numerous area basketball tournaments. He and his wife, Becky, had two sons. Though he has passed away, the basketball team honors his memory with the "Mark House 3-D Award," which is awarded to an individual who did the most outstanding job defensively on the season.
