Patricia (McKinzie) Lechault, is a SHS graduate of the class of 1975. While attending Sterling High School, she participated in basketball, volleyball, softball, and track from their origin at the school in 1973. In basketball, Pat was named SHS's Most Valuable Player in both 1974 and 1975. She also set eight girls basketball school records - most points per game with 42, highest season average with 24.6 points per game, highest career average with 20.6 points per game, highest field goal percent of 57.9%, most field goals in one game with 18, most rebounds in one game with 28, highest season rebound average with 19, and highest career rebound average with 16 rebounds per game. Pat also served as the captain of the basketball team her senior year and never played in a losing varsity game during her high school career with a record of 28-0. In track Pat's junior year, she set the school record of 2:31.8 in the 800-meter run. At the district meet, she also captured second place in the 800-meter run. Captain of the team her senior year, Pat finished first at the NCIC Meet in the 880-yard run with a time of 2:33.3 and second in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:26.8. Pat qualified for the state tournament both her junior and senior year in the 880-yard run. At the conclusion of her high school athletic career, Pat was the first girl to receive the Roscoe Eades award and first girl to receive an athletic scholarship. Upon graduation in 1975, Pat attended Illinois State University, where she started on the girls basketball team all four years of attendance. She was a member of three state championship teams and held the AIAW State Tourney high scoring record of 39 points in one game. Captain of the team in 1979, she was named Most Valuable Player. In addition, she was a Wade trophy nominee, presented to the top 30 college women basketball players, a member of the Kodak All-American Team, and a member of the Professional Scouting Association All-American Team, her senior year. Pat was also the third leading career scorer in ISU history with 1,492 career points. While attending Illinois State, Pat also came back to Sterling High School, where she conducted summer basketball camps in 1978, 1979, and 1980. She also was the guest speaker at numerous basketball camps throughout Illinois. Graduating with a 3.6 grade point average and a BA in sociology, Pat played professional basketball for the Washington Metros in 1980. After playing professional basketball for one year, she was an international basketball player and instructor in Paris, France. The following year in 1982, she participated on the international team and instructed in Marbury, West Germany, for two years. In 1983, she coached international basketball at the "American School of Paris." Since 1996, she and her husband, Gerald, have lived in Switzerland with their two children, where she has does freelance writing and continues coaching basketball. She is coach for the International School of Geneva, where her teams have obtained three Swiss Championships and three European Championships for Internatinal Schools (1999, 2000, and 2001). In 1984, Pat was also inducted into the Illinois State University Hall of Fame.
