Marche Harris, born March 9, 1959, is a SHS graduate of the class of 1977. While attending Sterling High School Marche participated in basketball, track, volleyball, softball. As captain of the basketball team her senior year, Marche had a record of 164 field goals, 45 free throws, 50 rebounds, 39 assists, 61 recoveries, and 17.76 points per game for a total of 373 points in 21 games. A member of the First Team AP-UPI in 1977 she also was named All-Conference every year and Most Valuable Player her senior year. In Marche's high school career she had a total of 802 points and averaged 15.4 points per game. The 1977 basketball team was the first ever girl's basketball state champions and is a member of the Sterling High School Athletic Hall of Fame. In track, Marche set three SHS records, high jump (5'9"), 100-meter dash (12.2), and 800-meter medley (1.49.6). As Most Valuable Player, Marche qualified for the state meet, where she finished fifth in the high jump in 1977. In addition, she was named All-Conference all four years. Upon graduation, she attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., where she was a member of the basketball and track team until 1979. In 1979, she transferred to Illinois State University, where she also participated in track and basketball. She was co-captain of the basketball team and tri-captain of the track team in 1981. Marche was also an All-Star at the Northern Kentucky Invitational and at the Redbird Invitational.Graduating with her bachelor's degree in 1981, she coached a basketball team in Kentucky. In 1982, she broadcasted Illinois State University women's basketball games, until 1983. After her stint in broadcasting, she was employed by Jewish Family and Children Services as a child care worker.
