Amy Eshleman, born December 31, 1961, is a SHS graduate of the class of 1980. Amy received varsity letters in basketball, tennis, and softball while at Sterling High School. In basketball, Amy was a member of the first place, 1977, undefeated basketball team. In 1978, the team went undefeated for the second consecutive year. This same year, she was also awarded the McKinzie Free Throw Award. During her junior year, Amy was a special Mention All-State Member, and was chosen for the All-Conference First Team. The team completed their season with third place at the state competition. A member of the basketball team her senior year, the team was part of the "Elite Eight." Amy was named to the All-Conference First Team again her senior year, she also was chosen as a Converse All-American. She ended her high school basketball career with a total of 1,287 points in 87 games, and held the high scoring record of 504 points during the 1980 season. A tennis district runner up her freshman and sophomore year, Amy received the Hustle Award both years for the SHS squad. During her sophomore year, she was ranked among the top 16 in the state for doubles in tennis and named All-Conference. Her junior year, Amy was ranked among the top 16 in the state again for doubles and named the MVP for the year. She also was named the district champion for singles and conference champion for both singles and doubles. The 1979 tennis team finished with eighth place at the state meet. In softball, Amy was named All-Conference in 1979 and again in 1980. Her senior year she led the team in hitting, batting, and batting averages per game. Amy was honored with the Carnation Prep All-American Award, given to two people in the state each year, for basketball, tennis, and softball at the end of her senior year. In addition, she also received the Roscoe Eades Award in 1980. In addition to athletics, Amy was also involved in numerous extracurricular activities, such as editor of the yearbook (1979 and 1980), S-Club president (1980), National Honor Society, and also named Student of the Month (1980). Amy was honored her senior year by being elected to recieve the Jolie McPherson All-Around Student Award and the class of 1980 commencement speaker. Upon graduation, she continued her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While she was there, she maintained a 3.0 grade point average while playing intramural tennis. During the 1982-83 school year, she attended the Miami University European Center in Luxumbourge. Upon receiving her collegiate commencement, she proceeded to Washington, DC where she worked on Capitol Hill for seven years as a legislative assistant for the House of Representatives. In 1988, she obtained a job as a lobbyist at a law firm in Washington, before moving to Chicago in 1991. In Chicago, she received a job at Sibley and Austin Law Firm as a lobbyist. In 1993, Amy procured a job at the Chicago Public Library, where she is the Director of Development and Outreach.
