Greg Dietz, born November 23, 1964, is a SHS graduate of the class of 1983. While at Sterling High School, Greg earned a total of six varsity letters; two in football and four in track. A member of the varsity track team all four years of high school, Greg qualified for the state meet his freshman year in the 800-meter relay. During his sophomore year, he placed seventh in the 60-yard low hurdles with the school record of 0:7.1. He was named to the All-Conference team for his freshman and sophomore year. His junior year, he set two new school records in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:28.69 and in the 400-meter dash with a time of 0:42.7. That same year, Greg qualified for the state meet in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter relay, and the 1600-meter relay. At the state meet Greg and his relay team received eighth place in the 800-meter relay. In the Indoor State Track Meet, Greg received seventh place in the 60-yard high hurdles with a school record of 0:7.5. Most Valuable Player for both the 1982 and 1983 season, Greg was named co-captain of the track team his senior year. He set two school records in 1983; 0:14.4 in the 110-meter high hurdles and 3:22.0 in the 1600-meter relay. Greg qualified again for the state meet in the 800-meter relay and in the 110 high hurdles. At the Indoor State Track Meet, Greg placed fifth with his 1600-meter relay team. The team had a dual meet record of 5-1 for the season. A member of the varsity football team for two years, Greg was co-captain of the team in 1982. During his senior year the team captured the NCIC title. With a record of 9-1-0, they were ranked sixth in class 5A after the regular season. At the conclusion of his senior year, Greg was honored with the Roscoe Eades Award. Upon graduating, he went to University of Iowa where he graduated in 1988. Receiving commencement, he was employed by Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Ill. A teacher, coach, and department chairman for several years he was named Teacher of the Year while working there. He and his wife Rita reside in Naperville, Ill., with their two daughters and son.
