Megan Baker Weemer graduated from Sterling High School in 1995. While in high school she was recognized for her academics by induction into the National Honor Society. She earned nine varsity athletic awards for her athletic achievement, four in tennis, three in basketball, and two in track. Megan was honored as the 1995 Sterling High Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year by her selection as winner of the Sterling High School Roscoe Eades Award.Megan was an exceptional tennis player all four years of high school. She was a team leader by example and by encouragement in all the sports in which she was a participant. During the regular season of her senior year in tennis she was undefeated at 24-0, and her overall tennis record at SHS was 98-18. She was voted as the SHS tennis team captain for three years and was the tennis team MVP for four years. She was the NCIC Conference champion for three years at #1 singles and received NCIC All-Conference honors in 1992, 1993, and 1994. She was an IHSA State Tennis Tournament qualifier for three years, was the 1994 IHSA Tennis Sectional champion, and advanced in the state tournament to the sweet sixteen. Megan was selected to the tennis All-State First Team in 1994, was selected as second team All-State in 1993, and All-State honorable mention in 1992. After high school, Megan graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., in 1999. Academically at WIU she was on the dean's list and honored with recognition to the Kappa Omicron Nu National Honors Fraternity from 1996 to 1999. While at WIU she competed on the tennis intercollegiate team and earned varsity athletics awards at #1 singles and #1 doubles for four years. She was elected as the WIU tennis team MVP for four years. Also, she was selected to the collegiate First Team All-Conference for three years. Megan then attended Indiana State University for post-graduate studies and academically was selected to the dean's list in her study of dietetics. Currently she is an instructor of Exercise Science at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., and she is also the head coach of the women's tennis team at Illinois Benedictine University. Her parents are Tom '68 and Shari Baker of Sterling. She has a sister Darci Schmitt '81 and a brother Matt '88. Professionally, she is a recognized public speaker on nutrition and eating disorders. Her hobbies include watching basketball, running, and playing with her son Payton. She is married to husband Steve, and now lives in Montgomery, Ill.
