A 1996 graduate of Sterling High School, Doug Densmore participated in varsity football for three years and varsity track for four years.

In football, Doug was All-State, as well as, the All-Area Player of the Year. He was elected as the Most Valuable Player, both his junior and senior year and was a member of the 1994 football team that captured the most wins in SHS history. He also received First Team All-Conference Honors both his junior and senior year and was Tom Lemmings Football News Top 100 recruit in the Midwest.

A member of the track team, Doug was an All-State track member and received the Most Valuable Player Award his sophomore, junior and senior year. He was a twelve time Conference Track Champion. He participated in the State Track Meet each year of his high school career, in six different events and was the State Champion in the Pole Vault his senior year.

After graduating from SHS, Doug continued his education and football career with Iowa State University. His first year he joined the team as a redshirt and the following year got his chance to play. He served as a defensive back and on special teams while on the Iowa State Football Team. He became a four year letter winner and was named Most Valuable Defensive Back and Most Valuable Special Teams member several times. He was named Big 12 Academic All-Conference and was given a full-ride scholarship to continue to play football after his freshman year. At the end of his senior season he was selected by the football coaching staff to receive the Bill Daley Award, awarded annually to a great football player with little public recognition.

Upon college commencement from Iowa State in 2001, Doug returned to Sterling High School and assisted the SHS football coaching staff.
