Leslie Edmondson graduated from Sterling High School in 1997. While in high school she earned varsity athletic awards in cross country and track.

Her senior year she was elected as captain of both her cross country and track teams. She was chosen as the MVP in cross country for three years and was chosen the track team MVP during her senior year.

As the anchor of the 4x800 relay team, Leslie helped set a school record that held up for about ten years and finished seventh at state in the event. She also qualified for state in five different events on the track. She excelled in any distance from 400 meters to 3200 meters. She also competed in the triple jump.

In cross country she placed 9th and 15th at state which were the two highest places by an SHS runner. Her teams captured two regional championships and three top ten finishes at sectionals. Leslie finished second in the NCIC conference two years and first another.

She continued her cross country career at Sauk Valley Community College. She won national honors at the SVCC NJCAA Meet in 1997 and placed sixth nationally.
