Megan Fliss, the daughter of Mike and Harriett Fliss, had a four year involvement in cross country and track where she earned four varsity letters in each sport. During her high school cross country career, she earned the “Dedication Award” as a junior and was named the team’s Most Valuable Athlete her freshmen, sophomore, and senior seasons. Megan qualified for the IHSA State Cross Country Championships her sophomore and senior seasons. She was captain of the cross country and track teams her senior year. She was an All-NCIC performer in cross country all four years of high school with the following finishes at the conference meet:· 2002 9th Place· 2003 2nd Place· 2004 9th Place· 2005 3rd PlaceOn the track, Megan was a member of the 4x800 team that captured the conference title in each of her four years at SHS. Megan also was a medal winner in the 1600 and was a leader in a track program that won the conference title each of her four years. As a freshmen, the 4 X 800 team earned a 9th Place medal at the state finals. As a junior, Megan ran on the 4x800 team that established a new school record. Her teammates awarded her with the “Hustle” and “Dedication” Awards her senior season. Megan’s leadership abilities were recognized by her teammates as she was a captain of both cross country and track teams her senior season.Megan’s accomplishments were not limited to the athletic arena as she excelled in the classroom and earned NCIC First Team All-Academic Honors in both track and cross country, as well as being on the SHS High Honor Roll for four years. Participation in the fine arts found Megan involved in band, orchestra, concert choir, Canterbury Singers, and Madrigals. She also served as President of the Science Club, was a Junior Rotarian, and a B.L.I.N.D. Student Leader.
