Kaitlin Loos was a 2009 graduate of Sterling High School who competed in volleyball, basketball, and track, earning 8 varsity letters overall. On the hardwood during her freshman year, Kaitlin was a key member of the freshman basketball team and helped the team achieve a 19-6 record. At the end of the season, Kaitlin was given the Attitude Award from her coaches. Later, on the fresh-soph track team, Kaitlin was given the Most Improved Award at the end of the season.As a sophomore on the varsity volleyball team, Kaitlin was a valuable asset for the squad, as she was one of the kills and blocks leaders for the team along with Shanna Loos ’07 and Kaitlin Johnson ’07. With these stats, among others, Kaitlin was named Honorable Mention All-Conference.In the spring, Kaitlin participated on the varsity track team. At the NCIC Conference Meet, Kaitlin jumped 5’4” to take second place, just under the 5’5” effort from teammate Constance Sciacero ’08. Kaitlin won the 300m hurdles with a time of 51.05.During her junior year, Kaitlin was one of captains of the volleyball team. On the basketball court, Kaitlin was a key cog on a team that placed second in conference. Kaitlin scored an average of 7.4 points per game to be the third-best scorer on the team. On the DuWayne Dietz Track, Kaitlin was a part of the team that won the 19th girls’ track conference championship in 21 years. Kaitlin qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet at the sectional, breaking the SHS record for the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.42.When the fall of 2008 rolled around, Kaitlin was on one of the best volleyball teams in SHS history. The team achieved a record 20 wins and a second place finish in the conference before a loss against Freeport in the regional final. Kaitlin led the team in kills and was named an Athlete of the Week by Sauk Valley Media and a member of the NCIC Reagan 1st Team All-Conference unanimously. Kaitlin received the team MVP Award at the end of the season.Senior year basketball also proved to be a great season for both Kaitlin and her team. Overall, the girls’ basketball team went 21-11 on the season with an 8-2 record in conference. Kaitlin averaged 9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in all 32 games and was a Sauk Valley Media Player of the Week, a 1st Team NCIC All-Conference pick, and a member of the Sauk Valley Media All-Star Roster on the “Gazette” Girls’ Team. In track during the spring, Kaitlin had another outstanding season, cap-ending her high school track career on a high note. As a team captain, Kaitlin was able to lead the track team its ninth conference title in a row at the NCIC meet. Later, at the sectional meet, Kaitlin was able to qualify to the state meet for the second straight year, advancing in both the 100 high hurdles and the high jump. The IHSA State Track Meet proved to be a crowning moment for Kaitlin, as she was able to place ninth in the state in the high jump with a height of 5’2”. By the end of the season, Kaitlin was honored as the MVP of the track team.Kaitlin was involved at the high school in Student Council, Science Club, W.Y.S.E., Euchre Club, Math Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and National Honor Society. She also was a Junior Rotarian and hall monitor. At the end of her senior year, Kaitlin still had a couple other awards to pick up. Kaitlin won the S Award for her participation in volleyball, basketball, and track all four years of high school, and was chosen as the female Roscoe Eades winner for her excellence in SHS sports.Kaitlin was also on a traveling volleyball team called “React” alongside playing in the blue and gold. Before her senior year, Kaitlin helped the team go all the way to the national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.Once graduated from SHS, Kaitlin decided to continue to develop her athletic prowess on the Olivet Nazarene University track and volleyball teams. In track, Kaitlin is a record holder in many events for Olivet for the heptathlon, including a time of 16.25 in the 100 H in 2010, and a height of 1.56 m in the high jump, a distance of 9.01 m in the shot put, a distance of 36.56 m in the javelin, and 3887 points in 2012. Along with these records, Kaitlin also did well academically, being named a member of the 2012 CCAC All-Academic Team and a 2012 NAIA scholar-athlete, in which an athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and already have a junior academic status.Kaitlin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2013. Kaitlin is currently a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School. She lives in Sterling.
