Keaton Dir ‘14 is the son of Kyle and Amy Dir. As a three-sport athlete throughout high school and “S” Award winner, Keaton earned three varsity letters in cross country, four in swimming, and two in track for a total of nine varsity letters over his four years. In swimming, Keaton earned NIB-12 All-Conference honors during his junior and senior year. His junior year, Keaton placed 1st team in the 500 freestyle and 2nd team in the 200 freestyle. In a fashion similar to his junior year, Keaton also earned two NIB-12 All-Conference honors his senior year: 1st team in the 100 butterfly and 2nd team in the 200 freestyle. During his senior season, Keaton was an IHSA state qualifier in both the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle. Besides earning him a spot at state, Keaton’s times at the sectional meet in both events broke the previous Sterling High School records. Keaton swam 52.82 in the 100 butterfly and 1:43.87 in the 200 freestyle.Keaton also earned many honors from the team itself over his high school career. As a freshman, Keaton earned the Dedication Award and the Best Freshman Award. Both his sophomore and junior year he was awarded the Varsity Hustle Award. He was a two-year captain and, his senior year, was awarded MVP. He earned a spot as Athlete of the Week in swimming during his junior and senior seasons.As a member of the cross country team, Keaton was named Fr./So. Most Improved his sophomore year. He went on to earn MVP his junior year, as well as a position as captain. He continued to hold a captain position on the team his senior year. As a senior and standout distance runner, Keaton also was awarded the Brad Onken Memorial Scholarship.Keaton was awarded NIB-12 All-Academic honors six times; he was honored his junior and senior years in cross country, swimming, and track. In September of his senior year, he was named the Scholar Athlete of the Month. Using his talents outside of Sterling High School, Keaton was a member of the Sterling Stingray Swim Club where he was a swimmer, a captain, and a coach. Outside of athletics, he was a member of National Honor Society and a volunteer at the animal shelter. His hobbies include swimming, running, biking, playing disc golf, and being with friends.
