Margaret McPherson ’17 is the daughter of Jim and Cathy McPherson. Margaret is the winner of eight varsity letters in for cross country and track over her high school career.In cross country, Margaret was a dominant presence on the varsity team all four years in high school. For her authority on the team, she won the team’s MVP award her sophomore year through her senior year. She was also a strong leader on the cross country team throughout her high school years, being named a captain on the team for both her junior and senior seasons. Margaret was recognized for her outstanding achievements for the cross country team by being named to the All-Conference team her junior and senior seasons.On the track, Margaret was a superior individual runner. She ran on the varsity team all four years of high school. During her senior year, she made history when she not only broke the SHS girls’ 1600 record with a time of 5:07.90, but broke the girls’ record for the 3200 as well, with a time of 10:57.90. With breaking these records, Margaret was named the Most Valuable Player for the track team. Furthermore, Margaret was five-time All-State, including the 4x8 and 1600 her sophomore year, the 1600 her junior year, and the 1600 and 3200 her senior year. She also received the girls’ track and field first medal in the 3200 her senior year and was undefeated in the 3200 run until the sectional meet her senior year.In her spare time, Margaret enjoys running, cooking with her mom, practicing yoga, and spending time with her older sisters when they are home. She will continue her cross country and track careers at Eastern Illinois University.
