Isaiah Ryan ’19 is the son of Melissa Ryan-Bergstrom and Joe Ryan ’93. Isaiah is the recipient of nine varsity letters along with the “S” Award for participating in football, boys’ basketball, and boys’ track all four years of high school.While his freshman year was spent playing for the sophomore football team, his next three would be spent as a key player on the varsity defense in part of a record-breaking time in the Sterling Football program. In his time on the team, S.H.S. football not only broke the “quarterfinal curse” by making it to the semifinal game for the first time in the program’s history, but the team also finished with an overall record of 34-4 in his three years. In his junior and senior years, Isaiah earned both academic and athletic All-Conference honors. After his senior season, he was additionally awarded Sauk Valley Player of the Year, Defensive MVP, and overall MVP, along with earning a place on the 5A IHSFCA All State Team.In the winters, Isaiah spent his time on the courts playing for the freshman boys’ basketball team his freshman year, then moving up to varsity for the next three years, playing point guard his junior and senior years. Both his sophomore and junior teams won regional and conference championships. In his final year, Isaiah rose up as one of the team’s leading players, earning the free-throw award, the steals award, and the assist award, alongside an All-Conference honorable mention. He kept his academics up while dominating the court, earning Academic All-Conference honors both his junior and senior years.To round out his career, Isaiah ran track all four years, running for varsity after his freshman year. As a member of the S.H.S. track team, Isaiah was an integral part of two state qualifying relays: his 4x200 in his senior year and the 4x100 in his junior year. The 4x100 not only placed 16th, but also contributed to the team’s overall sixth place finish. After successful seasons his junior and senior year, Isaiah earned Academic and Athletic All-Conference honors and received the Duwayne Dietz Excellence in Track award at the end of his final season.In his free time, Isaiah enjoys listening to music, exercising, and spending time with his friends and family. He will continue his football career at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
