Season record of 20-10
First in conference
Regional champions
Sectional champions
Sweet 16 qualifier - Lost to third ranked Peoria Richwoods

The 1974-75 boys basketball team was coached by Del Carr and Gary Lewison. The Warriors finished the season with 20 wins and 10 losses. They went 9-2 in the conference to grab a share of first place and won the Kewanee Regional and Moline Sectional, becoming one of only five teams in school history to qualify for the Sweet 16. With a nearly all-junior lineup, the team played like veterans, winning key conference games against Ottawa (63-61), Mendota (82-80), Dixon (71-65), and Rock Falls (56-54). Versus Ottawa on the road, the Warriors found themselves down 12 late in the third quarter, however, they fought their way back in the hostile Kingman Gym environment to pull out the upset. Big non-conference victories included Arlington Heights Hersey (63-51) at the DeKalb Holiday Tournament and Galesburg (79-75), which was a game marred by five technical fouls and a fight. In post season play, Sterling handily beat Geneseo and Kewanee to capture the Kewanee Regional Championship, which set up a rematch at the Moline Sectional with Rock Island, who had beaten them badly earlier in the year. This time, Sterling came up with a great team effort and defeated the heavily favored Rocks 59-58. That put Sterling into another rematch, this time with Mendota. Again Sterling came up with a great team effort and defeated the Trojans 76-73 in an exciting back and forth game. With the sectional championship in hand, the Warriors traveled to the Bradley University Civic Center in Peoria to take on the third rated team in the state, the Peoria Richwoods Knights. Sterling proved to be undermanned against the 28-1 Knights, as they finished the season one game shy of Champaign. The 1975 Warriors will long be remembered as one of the most exciting teams in school history.
