The 1979 girls basketball team had the highest number of victories in the history of SHS girls basketball with 29. They won the NCIC Title, Dixon Christmas Tournament, and Galesburg Invitational. They also took home the regional title, sectional title, and super-sectional title. After qualifying for the state tournament, the girls played hard to earn them the third place trophy.

The members of the team were Crystal (Carl) Hawkins '81, Callie (Fisher) Lee '80, Teresa Renner '81, Jolene Leseman '79, JoEllen (Vandersee) Swanson '82, Jamie (Fogarty) Preston '80, Sue (Uknes) Galloway '79, Beth Schafer '80, Amy Eshelman '80, Kim (Bechdolt) Batley '79, Teresa Geiger '79, Carol (Hill) Keperling '80, and Julie Dirks '80. The coaches were Sue Strong '68 and Jim McKinzie.
