After Sterling High School, Cynthia F. Grennan attended Illinois State University, graduating in 1959. Ms. Grennan received postgraduate degrees from Arizona State University (M.A.) and Claremont Graduate School (Ph.D.). At the present, Ms. Grennan holds the position of lead consultant for the California School Board Association for Superintendent and Cabinet Level Positions and lead consultant for New Directions and the International Group in working with underperforming schools. (K-12). Cynthia Grennan began her outstanding service to the educational field in 1959 as a junior high teacher in the Palatine, Illinois, public schools. From there she taught senior high students in the Chandler Public Schools in Chandler, Arizona. In 1964, Ms. Grennan continued her career in the Anaheim Union High School District. There she was a senior high social studies teacher, the head counselor, the district psychologist, assistant principal, and eventually, the superintendent of the district from 1979-1996. She has many professional affiliations—a member of the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Honig’s Advisory Committee, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Southern California Women in Educational Management. Dr. Grennan has received many awards and commendations—the California State Superintendent of the Year, American Association of School Administrators in 1989. She was named one of the Top 100 Educators in the United States in 1990, and she was inducted into the Illinois State University Hall of Fame, class of 2005. Ms. Grennan has been the keynote speaker at various conferences, and is committed to her community, serving as a volunteer judge for the Disneyland Creativity Challenge Award Program and a board member for Junior Achievement, just to name a few. In addition to her many accomplishments and contributions to the field of education, Ms. Grennan enjoys traveling, reading, and swimming in her spare time.
