William (Bill) Bromley graduated from Sterling Township High School in 1972. After graduation, Bill attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in radio/TV while also minoring in psychology and business in 1976. Although the University of Illinois was where Bill was formerly educated in radio, he was first introduced to the craft during the Sterling High School closed circuit TV system producing class. This class would act as the gateway for a successful decades long career in the radio industry.Following graduation from the University of Illinois, Bill started his forty-year professional career in radio as a commercial copy writer and producer at WTVO-TV in Rockford, Illinois. It wouldn’t be long for Bill to start climbing the promotion ladder with Bill being promoted to vice president of two radio stations in Evansville, Indiana, by the age of 29. Bill had a talent for managing radio stations as he also managed stations in Pennsylvania, Iowa, and Minnesota.Bill had a magic touch when it came to reviving underperforming radio stations and was constantly recruited to revitalize and increase profits of radio stations. Bill was known for having some of the top performing stations with profits exceeding expectations. As Bill gained more success and experience, he would continue to climb the ladder to bigger markets. While conquering the markets of Orlando, Tulsa, Little Rock, and Greenville (South Carolina), Bill ended his career with his pièce de résistance acting as the national and general sales manager for iHeartRadio. The main focus of the committee was to create sales training programs and promotion tactics for radio salespeople and managers. Throughout his successful stints at radio stations across the country, Bill strengthened his leadership skills and filled his rolodex with tips and tricks which he enjoyed sharing with coworkers and fellow employees. He was an inspiring mentor to many of his counterparts and younger colleagues.Although Bill’s main focus was sales for radio stations, he also developed sales for special events such as: the Daytona 500, Budweiser Professional Water Ski Tour, Orlando Predators Arena Football, Bayou Country Superfest, home and garden shows, golf tournaments, and various holiday promotions.During Bill’s forty-year career in the industry he witnessed and adapted to numerous changes in the evolution of radio. As music advanced from vinyl records to cassettes, cds, Mp3s, and eventually digital downloads, Bill adapted. Bill also kept pace with the changes in radio advertisement styles and effectively implemented them into his radio stations and promoted them to companies as a way to increase their profits.Profits weren’t Bill’s only focus; he was also actively involved in many charities and civil organizations including: Make-a-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council, Junior League, and various food pantries. Bill married Teresa (Craig ’71) Bromley in 1975 and was her primary caregiver until she passed away in 2015 with complications from muscular dystrophy. Bill retired to Baton Rouge at the young age of 60 in 2015. He married his wife Sue in 2016 and was an active member of Radio and Television Professionals, Baton Rouge Bike Club, Happy’s Running Club, and Bike Baton Rouge.
