High School Information:Mr McMillin excelled both academically and athletically while attending Sterling High School. He received 9 varsity letters in Football, Wrestling and Track and Field before graduating in 1975. He attended Montana State University on a wrestling scholarship. He has been inducted twice into the SHS Hall of Fame as a member of Football and Wrestling teams. College/University:1983 - Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Western Illinois University, Macomb, Ill.1992 - Master's Degree in Public Financial Management, American University, Washington, D.C.Professional/Career Achievements: Mr. McMillin entered federal civil service in 1983 as an auditor with the Department of Defense. For his first 14 years, he held financial management positions located in Washington DC, Melbourne Australia and Belleville Illinois. In 1997 he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) as the USTRANSCOM Deputy Director for Plans and Policy. For the next 12 years he served in SES positions equivalent to the 1 and 2 Star General levels. From 2009 on, he served in SES positions at the 3 Star General level – including Air Force Deputy CIO, Air Force Director of Security and Special Programs, and as the Air Force Auditor General. He currently is the Director of Program Analysis and Financial Management, United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. He is responsible for managing the $13 billion annual budget of the global Defense Transportation System. They have two boys, Sean - engaged to Cait, and Michael – married to Rachel.Dan has always had strong ties to the community, especially to his parents (Jack & Ann McMillin), siblings living in Sterling – Sue Zellar, Mary Kay Frey, and Pat Gaumer, as well as nephew and SHS teacher Tyler Gaumer. Dan is also one of the founders of the Red Dot Society - an organization dedicated to family fun and community outreach.Personal Statement:I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition – especially when reviewing the accomplishments of my fellow 2017 inductees and the prior inductees. I have been blessed with a balance of success in both my personal and professional lives that is a direct result of how I was shaped by my incredible family, friends, teachers/coaches and mentors.
